Spiced Golden Milk

One of my favorite winter down time activities is to make a cup of warm herbal tea or spiced golden milk and cuddle up in a blanket reading a good herb or gardening book! This recipe is a little sweet and warming with all its wonderful spices. It will definitely increase circulation, warming the body and promote good digestion. You may be surprised to see black pepper in it, but it only helps to increase absorption of other herb and spices adding more benefit. I like to make a big pot to share with loved ones or reheat over a few days and sip on to warm me up. Play around with the spices to your liking. This is what I like to call hearth home medicine, using what we already have in our cupboards. You probably already have all these ingredients to make it!

Recipe

2 cups milk, (coconut, rice, almond or animal).

1-2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey

1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric

Pinch of ground cardamom

Pinch of cinnamon (optional)

Pinch of ground ginger

Pinch of ground cloves

Pinch of ground allspice

Pinch of ground black pepper

1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Warm the milk in a saucepan or pot over medium heat. Add the maple syrup and spices. Whisk in well until it begins to simmer. Add the vanilla and serve. Keep on low if serving throughout the evening, stirring occasionally or transfer to a container, keep in fridge and reheat over the next few days.

Emily’s Hiking Adventure Society!

As I thought about what I could do to still find educational opportunities without living in the Salt Lake area any longer, or having my own garden temporarily to hold herb walks, the thought of going into God’s garden more often came to mind. So I would like to start a hiking adventure society! I have planned out 10 hikes every other week May through September. We will start with the more easy to moderate hikes and work up to the longer and more intense hikes with a few smaller ones in between. Listed below are the dates and the places we will be visiting, but not in any specific order. You can sign up for one hike for $10 or you can buy the whole package and save, for $50! *Hikes are subject to change due to weather, political propaganda or any other personal reason on my end. You will notice all hikes will be held on Fridays (most starting in the morning). Dates, times and places will be emailed to you when the time gets closer after you have signed up. This opportunity will give those who come on a regular basis an opportunity to see new plants and the same plants in their different seasons. I will be keeping the group small at 8 participants. No refunds issued for missing hikes once you sign up.

Dates to plan ahead-

May 14, 28
June 11, 25
July 9, 23
August 6, 20
September 3, 17

The Hikes- (not in any particular order)

Updates on Bulk Food Orders and New Classes-Workshops for 2021!

Teasel 2

Hello Friends! I have had many people ask if I am still going to do my bulk food storage orders. The answer is YES! We are currently living in Spanish Fork temporarily while we build a home in Sanpete County. I will have a pick up sight location in South Jordan. It will be a one or two day opportunity since it isn’t my home, most likely on a Friday and/or Saturday. You can always pick up from me in Spanish Fork too. I will have the food storage tab updated in the next few weeks ready for orders to be placed on March 10th. Please read all instructions carefully.

I have scheduled a few classes coming up in March and April. Because we are displaced right now, I will be holding the classes in South Jordan. Visit my events page for details. The two classes scheduled for now are pruning/organic gardening and fermentation/bread making. Other workshops will be planned as the season progresses and we have a better idea of what social gatherings can look like.

I am also looking to start a hiking group where we will hike mountains in the Salt Lake and Utah County areas. I am planning the hikes to build up to bigger and more intense hikes as the season continues. I am open to suggestions as well. It should be a really good opportunity to establish a strong foundation of plant identification and build endurance! The hikes will be held most likely on Fridays or Saturdays every other week. There will be a one time fee per hike or you can pay the group fee at a discount for unlimited access. More details to come!
